Objective

Pollster is an audience feedback tool. A presenter, or instructor, prompts the audience with a question who then respond with a click to signal their choice.

A version of Pollster is available under a Creative Commons license, and can be found on display at the ICT Library (SLurl) in Second Life. If you are unable to find a display please contact me).

A new page with instructions, and another page for feedback have been added. These will provide additional information and support for users of Pollster.

Interactivity

Presenter can write polling prompts in advance, loading them into the object with a single notecard. One click by the owner sets the polling in action. Once prompted, the audience or class members click on any of the large panels and their selections are registered. The proportion of votes are then displayed automatically in the smaller blocks of corresponding color. Presenter can easily reset the object by touch or chat command.

Features

  • Complete instructions provided, along with support through this wiki.
  • Easy preparation of polling prompts with a formatted notecard.
  • Simple operation with a click of the base by the owner; no one else can operate.
  • Audience response options are displayed in floating text above Pollster panels.
  • Each avatar gets only one vote!
  • Color of floating text changes by chat command

Feature Requests

Question should stay up for extended amount of time rather than fade away so quickly. One needs time to think. Are you referring to the chat display that is just above the Chat box? If so, that is controlled by the user in Preferences. The floating text should not fade away.

Would there be a way to format question so that the question and options stand out more...either using a different colored text or by separating in the format itself. This would help make pollster easier to use I think. -Will work on an option of colors for floating text.-

Add textures to panels to represent options, such as A B C D or Strongly Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree (replacing colors with textures of these).

Ability to select prompts out of order (pick which prompt gets displayed)

Ability to switch between response option configurations

Poll results sent to external script (which writes to database or XML file).

Feature requests are ... requested!
